About Coach Flatt

Coach Flatt’s love for baseball began at age 3, when he first swung a wiffle bat in the living room and only grew as he perfected his on-field skills over the years. Through the recent experiences of fatherhood and coaching, Coach Flatt’s connection to baseball has only deepened, bringing a fresh sense of purpose and joy to his approach with every player.

Coach Flatt started playing t-ball at 5 and quickly made a name for himself with his defensive prowess at SS. By the 6th grade, he found his true calling on the mound, becoming the most consistent pitcher for his first travel team thanks to his impressive control.

In high school, Coach Flatt starred as the starting third baseman and the #3 pitcher for McKinney North’s Varsity Team. He played a key role in their journey to the 4A Texas state semi-finals in 2006, where they defeated a Highland Park team featuring MLB pitcher Clayton Kershaw and NFL QB Matthew Stafford. Coach Flatt was one of only three players to get a hit off Kershaw in the playoff series - a moment that defined his high school career.

While Coach Flatt was offered a chance to play at the collegiate level, an elbow injury cut his competitive playing career short after high school. Despite this setback, he continued playing at shortstop for two more years in an Independent League. Alongside his playing career, Coach Flatt found his next big opportunity in Major League Baseball, interning with the Washington Nationals in 2008.

Coach Flatt's professional career took him to multiple MLB teams, including the New York Mets (Video Scouting), Cincinnati Reds (Baseball Operations), and Tampa Bay Rays (Player Development). Over the years, he worked with numerous MLB players, including Collin McHugh, Wilmer Flores, Homer Bailey, Joey Votto and Kevin Kiermaier. His work with the Reds included collaborating with Manager Dusty Baker to prepare the team for opponents using scouting reports and video analysis.

For the past three seasons, Coach Flatt has been a head coach in the 16U Glendale Babe Ruth Baseball League, bringing his years of experience and unique perspective to his teams. In 2025, he has decided to partner with his Assistant, Coach Ortiz, and form a competitive 12U team.

With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to player development, Coach Flatt is excited to lead a new generation of athletes as they strive to reach their full potential on and off the field.
